Need advice on a tablet and a cheap laptop

Options
Hi all,

I need help purchasing a new tablet, I've currently got a Tesco Hudl 2 tablet and I'd like one with similar specs that's sold at a similar price that the Hudl 2 was originally sold at, which was £120.

What company actually manufactured the Hudl for Tesco, I read other somewhere but I can't r remember the name of the company.
I think the same manufacturer may be producing a similar tablet for another company,.

Also I'd like a netbook for a secondary school child in year 7. I'd like it be powerful enough to run windows 10 and Microsoft office and be fast enough to use sites that secondary good kids use like scratch.

Thanks for any help.

  • We replaced our Hudl with a Lenovo tab 3. It appears a little more responsive than the Hudl and has the same type of child protection modes.

  • I still use my Hudl2 tablet, I've not really found anything with an 8" screen that can compare.

Yes there are 8" tablets at around £100 or so, but they tend to come with less storage, and lower resolution displays. The Hudl2 has a full 1920x1080 display, 16GB storage and quad core CPU.

I've found to get the same spec you need to up the budget completely and look at 10" screen variants.

That Groupon tablet doesn't even mention the screen resolution so they must be really embarrassed by it. It's on Android 4.4 which is very old, and good luck finding an update. 8 GB memory means you won't get a lot of apps on, and you can't simply move loads of them onto the Micro SD card.
So, that's a 'no' from me.
Amazon Fire is an option but it does not run Google Apps and you really need Amazon Prime.

What on earth do you need Amazon Prime for to use a Fire tablet? Google Play Store takes 2 minutes to sideload, which in turn gives you access to loads of the proper Google Apps, since lots of them are in the store these days.

I still think the Nexus 7 is great, it's unfortunate it wasn't replaced. Will spank a Hudl 2 anyway.

Argos still have them if you want it new, bt there should be plenty for ~£90 on eBay or Gumtree.

Why do you always insist on shortening your URL's to other threads you have participated in ?
Im mildly interested but nothing you could write would make me click that.

Just post the full url in future, getting people into the habit of clicking shorties is no good
