I see that OneNote has been explained to you.

With Dropbox you designate a folder on your machine during the DropBox install.
You can set up a series of folders under the DropBox folder and that structure gets mirrored automatically to the cloud along with any files you put in the folders. If you delete something on your machine it is deleted in the cloud but can be restored up to (iirc) 30 days later. Obviously it could have been deleted to your own recycle bin and will remain there until the bin is emptied. You can also access previous versions of documents and restore them if you wish. There will be some sort of limits on that but I don't recall what.

You can install DropBox on another device and using the same account have the DropBox folder mirrored to the new device. Therafter any change you make on one device will be mirrored in the cloud and on the other device.

In addition you can set up public folders and share specific items and/or folders with others with update or read only access.

Syncing happens automatically when you start up and any time an update is done. If you have multiple devices on the same network you can opt to have syncing take place across that network rather than multiple downloads from the cloud.

I use it as an easy backup and to make some of my data available to me away from home.
