Help getting shower riser rail off the wall

Hi
I need to change my shower riser rail due to broken shower head holder, however, the bottom screw is rusted shut (I've used WD40 and strong men have tried and failed to unscrew it) and I am not sure the best way to now tackle this, I'm thinking of hacksaw but not sure at what point to cut as the screw I'm trying to undo points up and not sure where the nail into the wall starts, any ideas?
Thanks
Kate
I have photos but can't seem to upload

  • Hi,

to insert pics you first need to upload them to tinypics or photobucket, etc, then use the insertimage.gifto insert, or just post links and somebody will put them up for you.

This is one of the jobs where the cutting wheel on a Dremel comes into its own. Firstly try cutting a good slot in the screw head to get a decent screwdriver onto it. If that fails cut off the surrounding parts of the shower riser so that you can get pliers onto the screw. If it still won't come out, then it's a matter of pulling it out with a bar.

I had the same thing, but luckily the screw head had rusted & the shower riser fell off mid shower!. Took me about three hours trying to drill it out without damaging the tiles. When I told OH she said "You spent 3hrs in the nude"? Luckily it was a cheap plastic one that look like metal so didn't damage the bath.

Assuming the picture is taken looking upwards I would cut the horizontal tube close to where it meets the vertical. Its unlikely the screw holding it to the wall would be the length of the horizontal tube. You could cut the vertical pipe above the horizontal pipe and look down into it to see if you can see the horizontal screw head.
