Smart Meters stop working when you switch supplier
Do other readers realise that if they’ve had Smart Meters installed, and then they switch suppliers, the Smart Meters will stop working..?
With so much money being spent on installing these (and the bill will be passed on to consumers by some means as they’re not really ‘free’) to supposedly save money in the long run, why have them installed when they don’t function with each and every supplier's equipment. As a result, customers would either NOT switch, or would have to pay their new supplier to have a new Smart Meter fitted...And the suppliers will still need to employ staff to read those meters that no longer function. How can this 'save' money for anyone?
I do wish this was made clear at the onset.
Surely it should never have been approved until the equipment could ‘switch’ when the customer switches...

Mine did nt ! I switched from BG to Sainsburys Energy ( exit penalty free ) , collected £40 cashback , then a few months later did the same thing in reverse and trousered another cashback fee and my smart meters stayed smart throughout..

Change the tune mate.
I tell you what, continue paying for your existing meter which is the same price as the smart meter, even if its 30 years old.0 -
Thanks Meterman for reminding all these people getting a little hysterical about the cost of the smart meter install. They have been paying for all meter exchanges since metering was invented.. I ve never heard of any complaints about that. e.g. Imperial to Metric exchanges , credit to prepayment meter exchanges and vice versa .This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
