Barclays closing my account

Hi

I'm in a strange change debt plan and I'm paying Barclays credit card £115 per month. They wrote to me today saying they are closing my account and putting a default against me as £115 is not enough! I have never missed a payment to them so unsure why they are now ending the debt plan.

What should I do?

Step change said I can't make a separate arrangement with them?

Hi there,


If this credit card has fallen behind and the £115 payments were informally negotiated then either party (you or Barclays) can change the arrangement. I agree it is strange for them to do this with no issues in the arrangement, but it is possible.


Can you please clarify, what debts are in your DMP with Step Change? Did this Barclaycard debt build up after the DMP started because that could mean Step Change won't continue with the DMP. Can you please clarify what you mean when you say "Step change said I can't make a separate arrangement with them?"

Phones Step Change and Barclays have sent these default letters out to thousands today. They said not to worry and ignore it and continue with my payments!

If they have sent letters out to thousand s today make sure they place the default the date or no latter then six months from the start of dmp as Barclays put the dreaded arrangement to pay marker on your account for years
