Hello,
We are just planning the summer hols and one of the things we are thinking about is Tintagel.
However, I have a few issues walking and it looks rough underfoot from photos. I would use my walking stick to help, but how bad are the paths?
If anyone has visited then please:
(1) Is it worth the effort?
(2) How difficult is the walking around?
Thanks.

Assuming you're talking about the Castle then it would be difficult walking around; lots of stairs and rough uneven paths:-

Is it worth it?
Well the views are fantastic but the Castle is virtually derelict.0 -
I don't recall it being particuarly rough other than a bit of up and down-hill - but then I'm more used to Scottish costal ruins accessed by little more than sheep-tracks clinging to cliffs but I do remember Tintagel being completely underwhelming otherwise. There are far better and probably more easy to access historic places in Cornwall - eg Lanhydrock House and Restormel Castle.0

Tintagel village itself is lovely.
The castle is another matter entirely. The track between the village and castle is pretty rough and steep although there is a land rover service that will, for a fee, take you to the bottom of the castle. For another fee they'll take you back to the village as well
The castle is nothing special, basically just ruins really. There are lots of steps to get into the castle itself (wooden and stone I think) and the footpaths once in the castle aren't great, some just grass tracks where people have walked. Some of these are steep.
Bearing in mind that the last time I visited was probably 15 years ago, so things may have changed but I doubt it.
I've not felt the need to go back to the castle in the last 15 years - I think I've been there twice (on one occasion we just walked to the bottom of the castle) but only once inside the castle itself. If I had the knowledge that I have now, I wouldn't bother visiting the castle. The village, yes, but not the castle. As another poster said, there are better places to go.0 -
I live about 30 miles from Tintagel and have only been there a couple of times but the road from the village to the castle is not too difficult but as someone else has mentioned there is transport. The castle itself is in ruins and not a lot to see, for me I could see enough without paying £8 ish each. However I would recommend walking down the path to sea it is lovely and worth seeing. At the top of the road down to the castle there is an amazing shop that makes the most incredible cornish pasties well worth tasting.
If you are in the area Boscastle is worth visiting too as it is not far from tintagel. It is a very pretty little village with lovely scenery.2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

Yes - Boscastle is lovely. I stayed there.
Stinker for parking though and when I was there and the restriction signs were hidden away under rubbish on the low wall behind the bins. Great..!0 -
Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice.
Cornwall is a very long drive from where we live and we had thought Tintagel was going to be one of the 'must do' things to see, but I think given the terrain at Tintagel we will look to visit somewhere else instead.
Judy2357 - don't wprry cornish pasties will be on the menu (we have been known to take detours just to visit nice tea shops before now).0
