Morocco?

Options
I'm starting to look for destinations for this year's holiday and I'm looking for some advice. I've decided to go outside my comfort zone and look somewhere other than the eurozone. We have in previous years done Greek islands (crete and rural zante) and also majorca (hated the commercialism). I've always liked the idea of Morocco and now feel confident enough to book it independently BUT I've no idea where.
I'd like somewhere with a beach suitable for a small child (sandy is a must, a shallow incline would be a bonus). Somewhere not too commercial, Costa del blackpool is not my thing, but it needs to have some places to eat/things to do as I like to try local cuisine when on holiday. Seeing the Sahara might be an experience but other than that I'm easy on details, I can fly from Birmingham or London in case it makes a difference.

If your looking for beach you want to head to adagir, but it is quite commercial on the main promenade - KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut - but there are local eateries as well.

A lot of the hotels have swimming pools some have water slides etc....

I've been to Agadir and Marrakesh last yr, there completely different kettle of fish,

In don't know if they do Sahara trips didn't see it on our tour plan, went to Sahara when in Tunisia it's mainly the mountains that are the to go to zone x

We went on a cruise, and had a trip which took us to a place called Tetoun. It was on the Med coast and it was beautiful. Apparently the King of Morocco holidays there.
It was developed but no Brits. The guide said he was expecting it to be opened up to tour operators in the future though.
You could book direct with a hotel, and hire a car.
I have definitely thought about it.

Long time since we were there but you could take a look at Essaouira, a bit north of Agadir, smaller and nicer. Also it's a World Heritage Site for its Medina. Nowadays there are direct flights from Luton.

From Marrakech you can do easy day trips into the mountains. Setti-Fatma for instance is very popular to escape the heat in the summer. There are organised tours or you can get there in a grand taxi (shared taxi) cheaply. These have fixed fares. It's a squeeze as they have six seats - four in the back and two next to the driver in a Mercedes - but you can buy extra seats so you have more space or the entire taxi to yourself.

Another vote for Essaouira. Really laid back and relaxed, if you're a Game of Thrones fan some of it was filmed there. A few hours by coach from Marrakech which is livelier and a jumping off point for desert tours.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Given the OP said '...somewhere with a beach suitable for a small child' and Marrakesh is 150 miles inland I find this an odd recommendation!

    Nope.

Resorts in Morocco with beaches include Agadir and Essouira.
