I have just signed up to power up. I was on a fixed tariff to June 2018. Yes the unit cost is slightly more but for me this is more than compensated by no standing charge. So I will save £20 + over the year. But as previous posts have said it is not necessarily cheaper so do your own calculations first. My annual usage is probably nearer £300.

    Snap!

I'm moving home at the end of October and changing from Electricity only to dual fuel electricity and gas. Lack of a standing charge is what attracts me. I'm on their April 2018 Fixed at this time. Currently for electricity only I pay £15 by direct debit every month so I'm a low user and their quote for dual fuel is £60 a month by direct debit to start with pending adjustments as the account progresses and my gas consumption becomes known. I think that monthly payment is too much and I would benefit with power up.

The only calculation available at this time is that based on my electricity consumption only Power Up will cost £8 a year more.

I've been with Scottish Power for a number of years. I'm a low user and my most recent fixed rate tariff was costing me £43.00 a month, calculated using meter readings supplied on a regular basis. I joined Power Up because, initially, the rate I was quoted (£35.00?) was going to save me quite a bit of money. There were problems with the app so by the time these were sorted, I was behind with my payments. Then I jumped in and paid for 6 months worth of electricity and gas. Stupidly – because I thought they were working with my past usage record and would be faithful to the original quote – I didn't do the calculations. Now I've discovered that my monthly rate has jumped to £47.00! How can this be? I can't retrieve the original quote because, once you've signed up to Power Up, you have no access to the old information. I've tried phoning several times but there are no Power Up 'specialists' available. They're supposed to call you back 'within five working days' but that's hopeless when you have other committments. Desperate for clarification and am tempted to leave and start again! Has anyone else been caught out like this?
