I think it's a shame that you can clearly afford to buy your bigger house, but you bought the council house. Of course this means you will have 2 houses while someone else is stuck in a B&B with kids and no chance of buying their own place. I think that's what people mean by not in the spirit of RTB.
Thanks for the comment, i understand what your saying but due to payrises by me and my wife we find ourselves in the position where we can afford a second house., maybe people might not agree but its how it happened

good on you look after number 1, if the system can be abused & is not illegale, then do it.
until the system is sorted out, then this type of thing will be/is rife.
i know my sis-in-law is looking at RTB in order to get a bit of equity to then b*gger off to NZ when she's passed her nursing exams, it's not right, but if she can do it then why not.0 -

As a tax payer since the age of 17 and worked full time paying all tax and not once claimed any sort of benefits from the government and also renting the property from the local council for 3 years prior to buying do you still think that im profitting from tax payers money, in my eyes as was in the right place at the right time and the house market rising why shouldnt i take this opportunity to furthur myself in the property game
You paid subsidised rents and then bought at a subsidised price. That is pretty much tantamount to claiming benefits.
Now you want to take your subsidised house and rent it out at market rates?

You now earn more money and can afford a bigger house. So buy a bigger house and leave your council bouse to someone in more need than you.
There are millions of people all around this country who would love to be able to "buy a bigger house" and to be able to achieve this, most of them work harder to earn more money to build a deposit to enable them to do so.
Your deposit for this bigger house has been given to you.

Political comments about RTB should be directed at governments (past and present) not to the people who followed the rules and bought their own homes.
Why someone should then be prevented from doing what they will with something they now own is beyond me.

Actually, since the rent charged by a private landlord is likely to be higher than the rent charged by the council on a council house, what OP wants to do is hardly doing the tenant a favour, is it?!

totally agree with silvercar, they followed the rules and got their "rewards" by the govt. (yes i know we as taxpayers have forked out for it)
but are you telling me if someone - no matter who it was - gave you £35k with no comeback and it not seen as a loan, for a deposit you would then give that back even if they weren't asking for it?
sorry but nope, look after number 1, if the system has flaws, use them for your benefit, simple as that.
do i like the idea of these people living on subsidised rents and then getting £30k given to them when i have to earn more than them for the same kind of living? of course i don't!
it's exactly the same as these bank charges claims, I live within my means always have done always will, I had one late payment about 5 years back and that's it, yet these people haven't and then got given a windfall plus interest, am i pleased hell no, but that's life the banks have slipped up (just like govt in this instance) so take take take.0 -
