BT Cashback - Price Rise

Just a moral question really.

Signed up for BT Broadband through Quidco in Dec. Got £100 Cashback from Quidco and £100 cashback from BT. I pay £21 a month so it works out at £52 for the entire year. Both cashbacks paid up within weeks.

However, 1 month on, BT have announced a price rise. I am entitles to switch providers without penalty.

A. Can they try to reclaim any cashback?
B. Is it morally wrong to switch?

I am in the same situation. Signed up in September and decided to cancel now due to the price increase. Also received topcasback and mastercard card, both together over £200. When i cancelled, nothing was mentioned.

Morally, dont think its wrong. They, and any service provider, will charge you over the odds if they can, and being a loyal costumer means you are paying more than anyone else. So, if for once, a costumer benefits, dont see it as being wrong. I have the same with Sky at the moment, and got a free year of TV, combination of 75% off and credit.

Now, if they can claim it back. Dont think there is anything on the terms and conditions that allows them to claim it back. But, as i see it, it was a gift and incentive, and should not be returned. I only cancelled because they put me in that position because of the price rises. I was happy to stay with BT is they didnt mess me about.

If everyone cancelled at price increases, they would stop messing people about and increasing costs mid contract. They will only stop it when it costs more money to increase prices and allowing people to leave, but i am sure lots of people do nothing, so they still get extra profits. The practice is a way to annoy and allienate costumers, that is why i am not loyal to any service provider. Its a bit of hassle, but i will not be taken advantage of.

Have you been notified you are liable to the price increase? Just asking as sometimes new customers within a certain amount of time aren't subject to the new price increases.
I switched recently to Sky Q and I've not been advised yet of any increases(so far).
    Just a thought.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Yes, got the email from them yesterday. Think its £2 a month. More about the principle. To me, a fixed contract should be fixed at the price quoted. BT are clearly now worried that they have overpaid for the football contract.

    Think I will switch
  • yes you can do it ,i did a few years ago moved over to plusnet and regretted it but they did the same so moved back to bt within a few months and got the quidco again
  • Well BT tried to force me to stay by saying I had to move within 14 days or I would be penalised. Feel less guilty now. Thanks for the £200 cashback. Plusnet it is
