Hi,

The SD Card reader in my PC (Win 8.1) has stopped working.

It was working before but now when I put a card in (tried several) it says I need to format the disk.

Any ideas?

I did install some software recently (Elgato Game Capture) but I have uninstalled that using the uninstaller that came with the s/w.

Thanks for any help.

Edit - the card seems OK as I can view the images on it when it is in the camera.

OK so I've managed to get around this problem by connecting the camera to the PC via AV out/USB.

I can now copy the files over.

Would be interested to know how to fix the SD Card reader issue though if anyone knows.

Driver issue or the cards bigger than the reader can accept? Mine wouldnt read 64GB cards.

If it really isn't working it's unlikely to be economic to attempt to fix it, just buy a USB card reader and plug that in.

I would say it's simply failed, hardware fault, buy a new one.
If I had to guess more exactly I would say the card socket has a fractured solder joint, but this would cost more to have repaired than simply buying a new one.

Try downloading the drivers for the card reader from your pc manufacturers support site.
