Stagecoach free WiFi

Options
As I spend an awful lot of the summer at my caravan in Norfolk and have a bus pass I use the buses for cheap travel. Most advertise Free WiFi and sure enough you can usually connect to it but I don't recall ever getting internet access when using this even if my phone managed to (not all that often in rural Norfolk).

I went on a bus at home yesterday and noticed that had WiFi too so I tried that. Still the same connects just fine but no internet (yes I tried the browser to see if there was some login or other to go through first).

So - has anybody managed to get good internet access on a Stagecoach bus or have I just been unlucky?

I use it regularly and usually get reasonable access - not very fast though. OK for news websites and email but not for watching streamed videos.

In my experience, it's best to turn off wifi first, then on when you get on the bus. You should get connected to a Stagecoach login page first, that allows you to connect (after ticking a box). No password or anything, it's perhaps to avoid people being automatically connected who are near but not on a bus.

Do you get this login screen? If not, that could be the problem.

    Quote from Stagecoach website:

"How to connect to our Wi-Fi

You’ll need a Wi-Fi enabled device to use our free wireless internet service.
    1. select 'Stagecoach' from the list of Wi-Fi networks available on your device
    2. launch your web browser
    3. a login page will appear
    4. follow the on-screen instructions to connect"

I'm on Stagecoach buses most days. It works some of the time... Have you tired different browsers? Sometimes this seems to matter.

All of these free transport wifi services seem to be terribly implemented and unreliable.

I fail to understand why they can't have an app like the cloud does that allows you to bypass the tick to connect page.

Yes I get no issues connecting to most other free WiFi just stagecoach. I think the last time I tried in Norfolk it came up with a page saying there was a problem. I didn't have a great deal of time at home as by the time I tried it I was nearly at my stop but I didn't get anything on the browser at all.

If some get service then it does obviously work at least some of the time so I'll try to remember to try connecting as soon as I get on next time. Norfolk is probably a lost cause as to provide WiFi the bus has to be getting a connection itself and a lot of the time I can't. - EE need to change their name to Everything Everywhere apart from.... (a rather long list ime)

You'll almost certainly get a far better service with your own 4G SIM, I pay £8 a month for 2GB on Virgin Mobile, and there are probably even better deals available.
