If you were using MS money and run it through,
a few days in advance !!!!
and your accounts had been manually updated

    this would not have happened.
Glad you didn't loose any dosh.

    What rubbish!

And if it wasn't available free I'd have you down as a MS Money salesman, you seem to push it so much (I use it myself, and will recommend it where appropriate, but it's utterly irrelevant in this and many other instances where you bring it up - and Colsten uses Ace Money anyway IIRC).
  • In the spirit of the OP, I've also been pleasantly surprised with Tesco's good service and for one or two reasons have begun using them as my main current A/C.

    1) They process standing orders 7 days a week
    2) Ability to set up direct debits using their Internet Saver accounts.
    3) 3% up to £3,000
    4) Customer service, whenever I've had to phone up, has always been prompt and efficient.
    5) Receiving a foreign payment IN to my current account arrived within 24 hours and incurred no incoming charges (many banks charge for that). I received exactly what was sent to me.
    6) Website puts all payees (of all my different accounts) together in one shared 'address book' - nice and easy to use

So far so good and big thumbs up to Tesco... I just hope their security is improved and they survive in the long run.

I ought to give a shout out to Nationwide too, as to be fair they've been excellent for the many years I've stuck with them.

It's all VERY embarrassing really - I had hidden that closed account in AceMoney, and had to actually unhide it to register the transaction. I did this before I sent the money. #facepalm. A case of total eclipse of the brain.

That functionality does exist if I recall my understanding of FPS correctly, but is dependent on the two banks having a real time conversation so that the receiving bank can tell the sending bank that the specified account does not exist. I don't know anything about Santander or Tesco FPS processing capability but I suspect one or both of them has not implemented that part of the process.
Or perhaps they just check current accounts for existence? My target account was a savings account. Who knows....

Make sure you have two Tesco accounts to get 3% on £6000. And like you I've banked with Nationwide for many years and have generally been pretty happy with their service

Never mind, you're allowed one mistake, especially with the number of accounts you have to keep track of!

I suspect Hang Leng's post is the answer.
