Is it too late to Settle an Account once it has been Satisfied

Options
So here's my issue. I have a default that is dated 06/08/2012. It has been satisfied since 2014. I do realise that this will come off my account next year, but I would like to remove it or at least settle it. Question is... Is it too late to settle the account & will it make much or any difference to my credit score.

Another option I thought of was possibly ringing them and asking them, if I pay the remaining amount could they get rid of the default completely. There is only one year left surely this must be something they would consider.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • If it's satisfied, that's as good as it gets.

There's no reason they would consider removing it.

Unless you are applying for a mortgage why even consider this?
Surely not to improve your "score" which is a made up number and a marketing ploy to get you to pay £14.99 a month.
Even if you are going for a mortgage speak to a bank or mortgage adviser to see if it will make any difference. You may be better putting the money to increasing your deposit.
If you ring them up, I am sure they would love to take your money as they had written it off, but you need to be sure this will benefit you as a lot of lenders accept defaults over a certain age, certainly 5 years
  • Thanks for your replies. It is a case of wanting to apply for a Mortgage & just want to lessen any risk of being declined. As it stand my credit rating is just above average. Was just wondering if this could make any difference, as I have been paying all my credit cards on time. No late direct debits for the last two years etc.
  • Your credit rating is meaningless. Lenders will score you against their own criteria.
