    Personally i'd ignore.

But the bigger problem seems to be the fact your well intended gestures have not been received with good grace.

Let the ungrateful do so and move on.

Kinda of my thinking but as I'm getting text messages (and trying to sort it out anyway just not easy when it's Christmas and new year and people Are busy)

I've been keeping them in th loop to say I was trying to sort it and did say it was more likely to be end of Jan time so it's not as if I'm ignoring them but I'm not prepared to pay loads for a skip which wouldn't be even nearly filled!!!

1 pack of laminate and a load of cans of paint will fit in a small car.
(we had an old stye clio they are small and it would have been a doddle in that)

Unless we are dealing with a smart car and/or a house with so many rooms you needed 15 different colors.

Bet if you put it on freecycle someone would probably collect it mutual agreed time you go and help.

edit so it was a smart 2 runs will do it

Tip: in order to avoid this situation, I included the paint etc that I intended to leave on the fixtures and fittings form.

In the end you thought you were doing them a favour (I have also left paint pots at previous houses) but didn't ask them if they wanted them (neither did I). Most people would have been grateful or been prepared to dump them themselves. Your buyers are neither grateful nor prepared to make any effort. So. It is up to you to shift it or not as you wish. If I was local I'd shift it. If I was at the other end of the country I wouldn't.

You can of course just ignore them. The likelihood of them taking a civil action against you over a few cans of paint is fairly small. Assuming that they are doing some renovation or redecoration themselves, they'll probably have been making trips to the tip anyway. How small minded can they be?
But you haven't really helped yourself by promising to do it and then over a month later you haven't-that is probably why they are now hassling you.

  • How many tins of paint is it? If it's too much to fit in a small car, then it's probably also too much for them to store without it causing an inconvenience. The chances are they will want to redecorate the house anyway so won't need any old paint to colour match.
  • While I would agree that they are being somewhat unreasonable, just go round there and get the stuff ASAP. You can fold the passenger seat flat and shove the laminate in there, then put the paint in the boot. I know Smart cars are small but don't underestimate how much you can fit in there!

Gracious what a lot of fuss over a few pots of paint! Seriously both sides need a common sense injection here.
The new owners seem to have got all hot and bothered about nothing...
And the OP - its been nearly 6 weeks since Christmas and this hasn't been sorted? Even if it took 2 trips in your smart car I would of thought you could of got rid of the paint cans by now?
You've mentioned not checking the shed... is there more left at your old house than you think perhaps? If your old shed is full of the usual shed stuff I can sympathise with the new owners.

When we sold last March we offered the buyers free of charge the fridge freezer / washer as they were colour coded to the kitchen - they said great as they were first time buyers after renting for years and did not have these.
1 week before moving we got a letter from their solicitor saying we must remove these items or we would be charged for disposal.

The bungalow we moved to had a garage half stocked with items, we just kept what we thought we might need and took the rest to the tip. by the sounds of it we should have demanded compensation :rotfl:
