Diamond ring valuation & GIA certificate

Hi:
Can someone help me out !!! My sister & I gave a diamond ring each to my niece 's boyfriend who is work for a whole sale jewellery company to have it valuation as well as obtain a GIA certificate but that was since last October & he said the diamond needs to take it off the ring ,also the diamond needs to go in batch then send to USA that's why it may take up to 6months .
I'm a bit worry both ring worth more then £5000 ,that was 20yrs ago both are just over 1 carat .

He said because went to USA also it went with a batch ,he can't get it back .

How did you expect GIA to inspect/measure/weigh the diamond if its in a ring?0 -
Yes GIA do take quite some time to grade stones, not up to 6 months though. Up to 3 months from my experience.
And yes the diamond would have to be unset from the ring for any one to be able to provide a document for it.
There are gemological laboratories in the UK, less cost, less risk in shipping, less headache.
You get faster service and you can call them.
I hope your diamond gets returned to you with the certificate.0
