Before I embark on a debt diary thread all about me, do you think they help and get you more focussed on your targets, or....?

I think they do. I've really enjoyed writing mine. I've been lucky as I've enjoyed and appreciated the support of some of the forum members here and its kept me focused.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0

GOD yes. It sounds daft but I really don't think we would've gotten as far without my diary. It's a source of support and has helped keep us on the straight and narrow. More because I'm scared of the virtual whipping I'd get I'd get from the regulars who read my diary! :rotfl:Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I have the same opinion as I-A.
I would not have got nearly as far had it not been for my debt diary - you lot know more about me than I do about myself I think, and that really does keep me focussed!!
If you get half the benefit out of starting a diary, that I have had from starting mine, you will be well on the way to becoming debt free in next to no time.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. i agree with all of the above ...my diary tends to go off on tangents and alot of the time isnt about my debt i kindve have a handle on how its getting paid etc ia is very good at keeping hers within totals etc i could never have that much commitment i envy her and when i read hypnos i constantly get blown away by the woman a true inspiration ..oberon i love reading for the laughter and ehallerts well if youve read hers i dont need to explain how strong and imaginative she is with her ways of getting her debt down ...what i am trying to say (but not doing a very good job of) is we all use our diaries for different things we have have different ways of writting but i dont think you'll find many that havnt found them helpful supportive and worthwhile ...good luck with yours0

I use mine as a way of sort of having a chat with a bunch of mates, and crowing about my £2 coin stash. I look back occasionally when I'm having a down day and think - yup, I rock. It's also useful for people to pop up and say 'Hey, you know how you're doing XYZ, well, why not try ABC instead'. Really useful way of getting advice when you didn't realise you needed it.This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

I daren't do a diary! I quite like at times wasting a little money, not to the point of starving ourselves but its the end of the month there is £30 left in the account and payday is next day - no it does not get thrown into the DMP (the little naughty imp in my head says you don't want to do that they are happily taking amounts you give them an unexpected little bit they will want more!) so my fingers reach for the dial ring a pizza and we all have a pizza and singstar night!
I have often thought about doing one then think nah what would I write!0 -
i do those things as well rayday but i keep them shtum lol ...you should go for it if you think it would help though0

I like having a diary for all the reasons people have mentioned. Also, when my mind is going round in circles worrying about money, I find it helps to write it down. It straightens my thoughts out and allows me to dump the worry for a while.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Cool, thanks guys. I think I may start a diary thread (although hope people don't get bored/fed up of yet another diary on here, but I think everyone is pretty cool and supportive on here) - Although I'm not really adding to my debt I strongly feel that I'm not shifting it either, so really need to get focused and stop being an idiot about it.0

I think the answer is yes. I failed or rather didnt succeed in my previous attempt due to certain problems. If I had kept the diary going it might have helped more.
I think for me as I was keeping my debt problems a secret from everyone I knew, friends, family and Girlfriend by writing a diary on here it was in a way telling people my problems and talking about it.
I started one yesterday and am going to stick to it. I think its a good idea and you should do one.Total Debt now £22,525.07 Start Debt £32,732.36
