Holiday Planner

Has anyone ever paid for a holiday planning service to plan their holiday for them. Currently looking to do a fly drive taking in New England and Canada but getting information overload from searching the internet.

That's what travel agents are for.

Personally I think planning trips is the best part! I love finding out about places and then tailoring my trip exactly how I want.

That's the problem. I don't want a standard package that a travel agent offers but it takes me hours trawling the internet to find the perfect itinerary. There are some companies that will do the planning for you based on your brief but I was wondering if anyone had ever used one and how much did you pay?

But that's what a good independent travel agent will do (i.e. not one that is part of a holiday company), and they won't charge you for it as they make their money from booking the components of your holiday. The difficulty these days may be finding one as everyone uses the internet to do it themselves, until the information overload kicks in...

Friends used Trailfinders last year for a long trip to New Zealand. They seemed impressed but personally I'd rather do it myself, I haven't used Trailfinders since the internet arrived. In New England I wouldn't book much at all, just take it as it comes.

I think you're looking for a company who do 'tailor-made' holidays.

    Google it.

Try Purely America. They can create an itinerary to your requirements and suggest options and hotels. They have basic tour info on their website but I would give them a call and give them an idea of what you want to achieve on your trip.

If you create a new thread on this forum saying what you want, people will respond - usually with helpful replies.

For example, it would help if you said how much you want to see cities, small towns, countryside, backroads, scenery, national parks, sport, music, history, museums, art, etc, etc. How much driving are you happy doing? What sort of accommodation do you want (expensive hotels, budget motels, chic B&B's, etc)?

Also say what time of the year you want to visit and the ages of the members of the party.

For route planning you can use Google Maps.

To see what each place offers, try some YouTube videos made by people who've visited them.

MY SIL & BIL do it & always book with Tom  Cook, & pay a lot more than I ever do for something very similar.

If you did want to do DIY have a look at itineraries on the holiday websites that do that sort of holiday, you'll find that you can get it cheaper.
