Just managed to get some lawn sand cheap in B&Q and I know it is a little early, but has anyone got any tips on the best way to spread it please? Don't want to spend a fortune on a spreader, but do want to do it properly.
Any tips gratefully received.

As you probably know lawn sand is the best for an early spring treatment low nitrogen and high in iron and will hammer moss like nothing else!..good move to grab it cheap. It is frustratingly fine so unfortunately a spreader is the only way.. but avoid the wind and wear a dust mask otherwise there is a good chance you could return home smelling likeTerry Waite's bike!0

Thank you for the laugh :rotfl::rotfl:
I get the impression a normal drop spreader is no good, really need a bit more control over it rather than burning the grass when turning. I only have about 50 square metres to do or so, might have to find a shaker or something. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
I guess it's another expense but I use one of these handy spreaders on small lawns and find it invaluable and it has a very fine setting...just make sure you walk backwards! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotts-Miracle-Gro-EverGreen-Handy-Spreader/dp/B002Q0M5A0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486063349&sr=8-1&keywords=handy+spreader0

I had been looking at those, was wondering if it would be suitable, thank you for confirming
Don't mind spending that on it.
Not a problem when it comes to raking it out, got myself an electric rake from Lidl in one of their chuck out sales for £5 a few years back, works lovely. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
A drop spreader is much better than a rotary handheld, though it takes a few mins longer to apply.0

Thank you, I know drop spreaders can be good, but with lawnsand I would have to spend out at least £30 on one with the handle on the handle so I could stop the flow of the sand, I suspect with a drop spreader I would probably kill half my lawn otherwise.
My OH is all for me using a sieve :eek:What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

It's worth £30 if you're going to do it every year or so. If you try anything that's not meant for the job there's a chance you'll kill plants in the borders and/or end up with a lawn that looks like a leopard's coat!0
