Speeding fine help?!

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend got done speeding at 53 in a 30, whoops. (Just so you know he's usually a very good driver he just had a blip!) He's just received a summons requiring a Statement of Means. We've been living together a year and a half so are not common law partners.
His income is 21k whilst mine is 50k. The Statement of Means requires him to input the household income. I'm just concerned adding my income will mean they fine him a lot more than they would if just his income was on there. To anyone official, we technically have nothing to do with each other since we're not married or common law partners so I don't see why they need my information? To be honest I don't see what his income has to do with the fact he was speeding either but that's a convo for another day!
Could anyone point me in the right direction for this please? Thanks in advance!

  • You live together and describe him as your boyfriend. For official purposes you are a household. Let him fill in the form, let him pay his deserved fine or get ready to taxi him around during his disqualification.

He was travelling at nearly double the speed limit. I don't think it counts as a "whoops" moment, does it.

perhaps he was speeding to catch up with your income , why not pay it for him , sounds like about 3 hrs of your pay

    £50k divided by 52 weeks = £961 divided by a 40 hr week = £24 per hour , ok a days wage!

If you've been living together, then you are 'common law partners' so much as that term exists. I think you mean that you are not civil partners (a legal binding similar to marriage).

But you live together, you are considered as a household, and therefore your income should be taken into account in the Statement of Means form.

Household income is exactly what it says it is. Dont even think about lying,.....

53 in a 30 zone..... I would take his licence off him for 6 months too.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I don't know if this website is correct:
    http://bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/index/magistrate-court-fines/summons-and-means-enquiry-form
but they state that it's likely that only the income of the defendant will be taken into account.
The form is very simple indeed to complete and in almost all cases, the court will only take into consideration the income of the defendant.
    ..
    ..
The amount of the fine is calculated by the court as being a percentage of the defendant’s “relevant weekly income” (RWI).

    Disqualification possible? Consider 7-56 days
