Legit or not?

Got a call today from Citizen Financial Advisory Services. They asked who I had had loans from, mortgages etc, just the usual. All sounded OK until they asked for £495 as a fee, as they pay me the complete claim (if there is any available) then I pay them back what they are due. The £495 is because some people haven't paid them (aye, right) They then asked for debit card or credit card details so they can take 1p from my account to verify who I am. I told them no, & that I would have to check up on them first. So, are they legit? Has anyone had any positive dealings with them?
Thanks for any help.

Not saying that it's not legit, but you'd be an idiot to pay someone to post off a PPI complaint form for you, and an even bigger one to pay up front.

But advance fee fraud can be quite profitable.

To refer to yourself as a financial adviser in the UK requires you to be regulated by the FCA. This company does not appear on the FCA register.

General rule of thumb is to never pay any money up front. There have been many scams which mirror advance fee fraud. Coincidence or not, all of these scams charge £495 up front. They take the money up front, go on to fail and take all the £495 fees with them.

It costs you a first class stamp to make a complaint. Why pay £495?

Thanks for the advice. Was thinking the same myself. And if they were that worried about not getting paid, why not take your cut first then send out the rest to the claimant.

Banks refund the PPI to the person complaining, even if they choose to use a CMC to post the letter off as it's your money not the claims firm

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
