Annual holiday leave legal amount

Hi all, my husband works 40 hours a week over 5 days, he has been told he will get 20 days holiday plus bank holidays over the year. However one colleague said that they only get the bank holiday if they work the day before and the day after ( will confirm when contract comes through). Just wanted to check whether any of this correct. I presume the other 8 days will come from bank holidays, but what if their shift doesnt fall on one of those days?
Many thanks

The legal minimum is 28 days holiday per year (which can and often does include the bank holidays).
Providing he gets the 28 days at some point during the year the the employer totally dictate when he takes them.0 -
Thanks, but what if the bank holiday falls on a day he doesn't work? it would be his normal day off and wouldn't get paid. I will make sure we write down holidays to check he gets his 28 days.0

Are you sure its the holiday he gets if he works the days before and after, or is it the extra pay? In a previous job I got a day off in lieu of a BH but also received double pay if I was at work on the shifts (I was due in) before and after. This was quite misunderstood by many employees.

He must get 28 days off work, when he would otherwise have been working, and still be paid for those days.0 -
Thanks, are easter sunday, xmas day, boxing day & new years day classed as bank holidays?0
-
It'll be Easter Monday which is the bank holiday.
Whether Xmas day etc are bank holidays will depend on which day if the week they fall. If they fall on the weekend then the Monday will be the official bank holiday. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Yes. There are normally* 8 bank holidays in a year, in England. These are
New Year's Day
Good Friday
Easter Sunday
May bank holiday (normally the first Monday in May)
Spring bank holiday (normally the last Monday in May)
August BH
Christmas Day
Boxing Day
*Because Easter moves around every year, it is possible to have a year with two Easters if your leave year starts/ends in the spring. (If your bank holiday allowance is separate from your 'normal' holiday allowance, employers are likely to force you to take the extra bank hol from your 'normal' allowance. In this case you should still get your full 28 days' minimum in the follwoing/preceding year with no Easter.)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Easter Sunday isn't a bank holiday at all. Easter Monday is though.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Op, as long as he gets 28 days paid holiday which can but doesn't have to include bank holidays then he is ok. If he works Monday to Friday and a bank holiday Monday occurs then that is one of his holidays if he doesn't work that dayBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
