Hi, I have a problem with my printer, Epson Stylus SX445W.
The print option was saying offline, but printer showing online, then lost the WiFi also. After a lot of faffing about I uninstalled the printer hoping to reinstall et voila! No such luck.
This where I am now...WiFi back on, but cannot install printer to computer! The printer LCD keeps showing 'make sure screen installer program on computer is ready to start setup'
During the set up the instructions indicate when the above message comes up 'press ok and follow instructions. I have done this several times and just going around in circles
Can anybody please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks

Hi
Can you connect the printer with USB cable to initialise the install? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Some years ago I had a problem with an Epson printer and if I remember correctly, after trying all the usual things I was advised not only to switch everything on and off, but also to actually disconnect the cables for 10 minutes or so, then plug everything back in. It did work for me. Whether your problem will be resolved so easily .....
Mine was an SX something.0 -
Don't like printers. Especially Epson. I've still got ink on my left thumb from fixing a printer yesterday. Mind you that was operator error. A neighbour had put "901" cartridges in a Canon printer which needed "302" cartridges. Although they are the same physical shape the pin-outs on the electrical connection are totally different. (And the ink on the thumb was me rescuing a "302" with a syringe stuck in it.) Must put a "NOT PRINTERS" note on my advert.
Sorry for the rant. If the original poster comes back, we're still listening. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
So I'm no expert but in my experience problems with WiFi printers often stem from a router reassigning a different ip address when it's restarted. I've also found that this can be made worse by hibernating computers trying to connect with the same ip address after the ip has been assigned to a different device.
This shouldn't be a problem if they computer is set to connect via the printer name on the network rather than the ip address but as a precaution it is worth logging into the router and reserving a specific ip address for the printer so it's always given the same one.
If it was me my first step in trying to establish what the problem was would be to try and use windows "add printer" option rather than the software supplied with the printer. This will only allow basic printing functionality but should help rule out any problems with the networking.0 -
Thank you for your advice, all is working again.
I could only find a disc for SX440W (never had this printer)and as the ink cartridge range covered this number decided to try it et voila!
I'm really not sure why/how it is now working,(I tried your suggestions) but I will run with it and hope for the best.
