Oyster card question

I need to make a journey across London using the tube. I have an oyster card which is the pay as you go type. I normally just use the buses in my zone but now need to use the tube to go across zones (from zone 4/5 into zone 1). Am i right in saying that I can still use this card on the tubes or do I need to 'buy' a different type of ticket to load onto my oyster card? Sorry, I've looked at the website but it doesn't seem to be clear about this!

thanks.

Yes you can use the same oystercard but you will have to make sure it's got enough credit on it as the underground costs more than the bus.

  • Mine tops up automatically when the credit is £5 or less. Will it still do this on the tubes or can I/should I top it up onliine just to be safe?

    thanks

Surprising question, since you have to go to a tube station to put money on to it. Anyway, if you have auto top up then if the balance is low it will automatically top up when you swipe it at the tube station.

Make sure you always check in and out as it will fine you and if your on auto top up the first thing you will know about it is when you get your bank statement.

That explains it, theres no way I'd ever have an auto top up oystercard. The way I look at it they get to keep £5 of your money that never gets used

Not on auto top up... they will top up on the buses too.
