Moving day

My son is moving house a date was first given as the 14th of Feb. But my sons vendor could not move on this date. My sons buyer who is rented accommodation, had agreed with his landlord to terminate the contract on the 14th. My sons vendor said they could move on the 20th Feb so my sons buyer arranged with his landlord to stay on to that date. Now my sons vendor has put the date back to 28th Feb. My sons buyer has now insisted he will move on the 20th. My son and daughter in law have 3 children below 6 years old. He feels he is in no mans land and has no where to live for 7 days. Does he have to move to accommodate his buyer or should he stay put until he can move into his new house. Helpful and accurate advice needed.

Have they exchanged contracts? Until exchange of contracts the moving day isn't set and can move and there isn't a lot your son or his buyer can do. They buyer will need to find temporary accommodation.
Once there has been exchange of contracts things are different and I *think* that whilst you can change the moving day it has to be mutually agreeable but someone will be along soon to confirm or advise otherwise.0 -
If contracts have been exchanged in which a moving date was agreed, it should be up to the "troublemaker" to compensate others in the chain, whether that be for temporary accommodation, storage costs or extra rent.0

What does this mean?My son is moving house a date was first given as the 14th of Feb......
a) that was the date written into the contract, which has now been exchanged, but that date is now being queried, or
b) that was the 1st date provisionally proposed but which has never been agreed?
What date does your son want to move?
Assuming contracts have not been exchanged, I suggest he instruct his solicitor that he wants Completion to be on xx date.0
