Hot water system

Hi everyone,

I am a bit clueless when it comes to hot water systems. My wife and I own our electric only house and I would like to move our hot water tank into loft, it is currently in a cupboard in the spare room.

I have read nightmare stories of people losing water pressure after moving the tank into the loft, something to do with it being level with cold water.

What would be the best option? Any other water heating systems you would recommend? I'd like instant hot water rather than the tank having to heat up throughout the day.

Thanks in advance.

If your hot water cylinder is moved into the loft then you will actually gain pressure due to the increased head of water between the tank and the outlets i.e taps.

What sort of tank is it? Is it the sort that has an integrated cold water feed tank as part of the cylinder? Will it all fit in the loft? How old is the cylinder? is it bare copper or insulated?

Maybe the answer is one of these? highly insulated, highly efficient recovery rates, twin immersion heaters so you can heat only half a tank if you want. Mains pressure hot water

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

There could be problems if the HW tank is fed from the cold water tank and the inlet is above the outlet of the cold water tank.

Don't forget that any heat lost from the tank warms the fabric of the house; which is why they are often in airing cupboards.

Don't even think about putting it in the loft if it hasn't got excellent insulation.
