L&C service + home buyer's report advice

Hello everyone,

We are first time buyers in the process of (hopefully!) buying our first home and I hope you could give me some advice at this stage of the process.
We used L&C as our broker (thanks to this site we found out about their zero-fee policy!), and it has been going well, however in one of our preliminary phone conversations the advisor asked us which type of survey we wanted done and since at that point we didn't know he said he'd put home buyer's report, confirming that we could change that at a later time.
However, when a week ago a surveyor called us saying he was about to carry out a survey on the property we want to buy, we realised that we not only agreed to the survey by ticking 'home buyer's report', but that we had also already paid for it!
I found this a bit out or order as neither of us remembers ever agreeing to the survey, but decided to go along with it to save time and money.
Anyway, the report found quite a few of issues with the house, which require further investigation of a building surveyor or builder.
I found all of this annoying, especially because with hindsight I realised we should have gone for a building report and not for a home buyer's one that could have investigated these matters further, but I feel we were not given a choice.
Now we are in a position when we need to find a reputable builder or structural engineer to come and look at the property and give us quotes, and we find it all quite confusing and scary, as we don't know anyone in this area and we can just rely on internet searches for finding someone.
My question is: has anyone found themselves in a similar situation?
Do you think we can complain/have claims with L&C in relation to the survey that we feel was 'imposed on us'? When we challenged them, they said that they were sorry 'this wasn't clear'.
What do we do now?

Thanks everyone for reading and for advising!
