Credit check by company I have nothing to do with

I signed up to Noddle a few months ago and just checked my credit report to find that Capitol One Bank ran a check on me and I have no idea why. I instigated nothing around the time the check was run. I understand Capital One offers credit cards at ridiculous rates for improving credit scores. I don't need this.

How do I go about getting them to remove this credit check?

I imagine it's a soft search as part of sourcing mailing lists, and if so, won't be of concern.

First thing is to not worry about the score as only you can see it.

Speak to Noddle about it and do the same with the other 2 credit ref agencies.

What credit cards do you have?

Some credit cards have different names but operate under Capital One such as Ocean.

You didn't state if this was a hard or soft credit search search. The former would be quite concerning if you didn't know about it, the latter which I would imagine is the case is nothing to worry about.

I keep getting 'quotation search' on mine from Capital One. I've not applied for a card, nor do I intend to.

Reason for these soft searches from from capital one:

The most common reason is that you’ve checked your eligibility for a credit card in the last 12 months.

This could have been directly with Capital One through our QuickCheck service, or through one of our partners, like Money Supermarket, Total Money, Clearscore or Ocean Finance.

It's quite common for people to agree to these things. Normally where you agree to some terms and conditions without actually reading them. A soft search won't have any impact and only you can see it.

Thanks for all the replies so far.
I only have my bank credit cards, which I've had for over 10 years.
Just checking the entry on Noddle and it says Totally Money powered by Capital One. Don't recall EVER looking at that website. Hmmm.
How do I differentiate between a 'soft' and 'hard' credit search. They have my name, address, DoB and application type: Sole.

Ah, ok, just realised it says 'quotation search' and apparently that won't be visible to any other organisations and won't impact my credit rating.

Have you used any price comparison services recently? - Whenever you use one and a list of potential lenders or insurance providers or whatever is generated, a good amount of them will have done a soft search of your credit report.
