Redundancy and broken / unbroken service.

I have worked for my employer for around 20 years now. About 8 years ago I left for 10-12 months before the tempted me back. Part of my return was that they would consider my service unbroken, which I have in writing, stored safely as well as multiple copies.
As times are hard at the moment and redundancy is never far away I've started considering what could happen.
Especially as they can play games especially when times are hard, and they are also poor at documenting things. I'm certain they will not take my unbroken service in account if it comes to the crunch.
Any ideas how I would stand if this does happen?
I ave considered getting a legal advise on this but don't want to temp fate at the moment.
Thanks in advance

I would suggest you look at that document very carefully, if there is any ambiguity, then they will obviously interpret in the way that suits them.
Also I am not sure how employment law treats a break in service, should it be necessary for the government to pay redundancy. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
