I agree - Honda Civic 8th Gen, 07 or 08 plate with decent mileage are reasonably priced. Look for the EX trim models - these come with sat nav, cruise control, heated seats, etc.

Base models come with cruise - £300 will get you an android headunit - I dont think I miss my heated seats!
  • Another vote here for sticking with what you have especially considering the amount you want to spend.

In my experience 3k is bandit territory.
  • Thanks for the replies so far!

Do you not think we need a petrol based on our mileage? Everyone keeps telling me that bad things are going to happy if I don't change to petrol.

Failling injectors, egr valve, DPF etc.

    Do you disagree?

    Thanks,

£3k will get you some really nice petrol luxobarges with cruise control. Nothing you'd regard as new though, but within about 10 years old. Something like an X-Type would be a great cruiser for your 300 mile trips.

Disagree or not you'll be getting no guarantee worth anything that your 3k won't be buying a lemon, at least you know the true history of yours.

Spend 2 or 3 hundred quid on a full service every year and put the rest of the 3k in the bank.

    Keep what you have.

Service at yearly intervals/10000miles, correct oil and filter even if you've only covered a low mileage.

Rather than fuel additives, use Shell Vpower fuel and get a Shell Drivers Club loyalty card. You may have to travel a few miles to a Shell garage, which may give the car the extra distance it needs to cover, to keep the DPF cleared.

Depending on mileage, don't forget to do cambelt/tensioners change (£350ish) at Fiat main dealer.

You have a good car, which you 'know'. £3k might bbuy you more expense, rather than savings.

  • Petrol Fiesta 1.6 - note that cam belt needs changing at 10 yrs of 70k miles whichever first, a good 2005/6 sub 3k none automatic - our daughter bought the mk6 i think it was called fce lifted an auto 1-6 - zetec, we only had oil changed every year she had it for 5 years, nbattery changed, and a known fault front springs crack, 70 to 120 quid a side as required via Halfords, smaller garage outfits - low ins, low costs, good pick up, roomy, but no curtain aribags etc
