Okay, I'll do the course - thanks everyone! /quote]

Well done - I hope you enjoy it, and learn from your experience. :T :T
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • I went on a speed awareness course recently, i only paid £60 which included all administration and a donation to raise road safety awareness in schools. I'm not too sure why you have to pay an additional £14.
  • Maybe it's more expensive because I live in the South East....?

I am not trying to justify myself, but the offence was committed the day after my brothers funeral while I was coming back from seeing a solicitor about the will. I hadn't driven for the few days after my brothers death as I knew I would be distracted, but didn't realise I would still be inattentive on the day afterwards. I was driving down the main road up to where I live, and I even realised I was going too fast and consciously slowed down at the end of the road - but I must have been snapped earlier.

I have felt rotten since I realised I was speeding, as there are two schools on that route and lots of pedestrians. I didn't mean to do it, honest, and I am not trying to get out of being punished or anything - in a way I almost feel as though I deserve the 3 points!

    Sorry!
    :o
  • I've done the Speedchoice course, attended about three months ago after being caught doing 37mph in a 30mph limit.

Just to clarify. Not all police forces operate the course although the aim is that every one will in the end. 37mph is the top limit, 38mph and the course wouldn't be offered. The course is held in the area that you "offended" in so if you get caught on holiday in Yorkshire and you live in Cornwall, then its a long trip for the course date. You'll normally have fairly local people attend the morning one and further afield folk for the afternoon one.

It really does make you think about speeding too and its only three hours out of your life. Also ought to mention that you will only get offered the course once. A second offence and they don't bother giving you the alternative.
  • My mum has done this course and she said it was fine - coffee, biscuits and I think she took a shine to the policeman in charge!

They put a speed camera on the road near where she works - unfortunately, by the time she got the first notification, she'd been done another three times, cue increasing hysteria as a new one arrived each day!

She got points for the first three, then got offered the course for the last one. I'd like to think she's realised the error of her ways and slowed down a little now...
Aim - debt free (excluding mortgage) by 30.... 3 years, and four months to go...
