Pay more & no penalty points on my licence?

I got caught speeding two weeks ago - first time ever
I would rather pay the extra money and go on the course than get the points.
Wether it adds much to my premium or not i wouldnt want them.
Plus with how keen the police are you could easily get another 3 and that would soon be 6....March 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

I was recently caught on a cameradoing 36 in a 30 near Hastings, but I have not been offered the opertunity of taking the course.
I would have done it, as some one said earlier - after 28+ years of driving and no convictions it would have brushed up my driving.
I know a couple of people who have done similiar courses and they enjoyed it.I am a debt counsellor working in the voluntary sector - we don't charge our clients for the work we do!0 -
I got caught in 2006 doing 47 in a 30 at temporary roadworks (usually a 70mph road and there was noone working ho hum..) but I wasn't given the choice to do a course or take the points.
So I now have 3 points on my licence but it hasn't effected my insurance premium at all. In fact when I called to tell them they said oh that's fine everyone has a few points so it won't cost you extra... :eek:Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

The course sounds like a fantastic idea and like others say you might enjoy it ?
However (looking at it purely from a DFW point of view) I work for the largest Insurance company in the UK and am reliably informed that for an SP30 driving offence (speeding over 30) there is no premium increase.
That said If you were to get another 3 points for another offence (within the 3 years that you must declare them) your premiums would increase ! (as you will have 6 points in effect)
So £14 to save a possible increase (should you get any more) sounds like a chance I would take !LBM - 20/05/07Well that all went FUBAR0 -

I don't think it's available throughout the country yet.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi. I was flashed last week doing about 35 in a 30. First one in about 12 years grrrrrrrrrr. Haven't received letter yet, but I'm sure I soon will.
Anyway, just went onto confused.com to see the difference cheapest before 3 points £60 fine (SP30) was £280, next £290, then £300.
With the SP30 it worked out cheapest was £307. then £321.
There you go. Probably worth paying the extra.0 -
I don't think it's available throughout the country yet.
I have a feeling it's fairly random - some people are offered the course and others aren't. It might be related to the individual cases, but I think it's more likely that they pick people in a "hotspot area" and run the course there, so you only get offered it if you're in that area.
Insurance companies are becoming more and more complacent about speeding charges - but bear in mind that, even if you don't have any points, you are normally asked to declare any driving convictions and this will still count (even though it doesn't affect the premium).Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Okay, I'll do the course - thanks everyone!

may or may not be relevant but if you have points on your license it can affect certain jobs or getting them if they are driving based. Some companies allow 3 to 6 points others you have to be completely clean.0

Not likely to apply to me because I am self-employed - it's useful information for others though.
