Packaged Account success!

Options
I have been reimbursed £2,250.63 by Barclays!
I phoned Barclays on the 16/01/17 to cancel the latest packaged account Tech Pack because the Additions packaged account had been discontinued. Earlier that week I had received from Barclays a letter about Tech Pack to promote its advantages and changes. Aside from a few minor adjustments to my overdraft charges I decided Tech Pack was not relevant for my needs.
I was advised by Barclays that cancelling the packaged account would not impact on my overdraft limit. What?!!
When I took out an overdraft way back in 1998 I was told by Barclays that I would have to have the Additions account in order to have an overdraft - I was serving with the British Forces in Germany at a BFPO address...Barclays sent my statements to this address!
Suffice to say I have never used any of the Additions benefits because I did not need them.
I put in a formal complaint over the phone, was issued a case number and told Barclays would write within five working days. During that week Barclays phoned wanting to discuss my complaint but I politely refused to discuss and asked them to write.
A few days later I received in the post a complaints pack from Barclays - they had made a preliminary investigation into my complaint and summarized I had been aware of paying for Additions! I completed the claims pack - do not be put off by it - and concluded my written statement by requesting a full reimbursement because I had been mis-sold.

Today I logged on to my Barclays account and holy moley Barclays had credited my account on 27/01/17 much to my surprise and delight. It took eleven days. Result!

  • Yay, Hubby has just received £2800 from Barclays to refund charges paid to his Additions account since 1996. He opened it when he left Uni and started his first job, and was told in branch that it was 'the standard account' if he wanted an overdraft. He never claimed on any of the insurances, and rarely used the overdraft. When he went into our local branch in 2011 to ask about cancelling the charges as they kept increasing, they persuaded him to just reduce his benefits and pay lower charges. Nevertheless, there was no quibble, 2 weeks since we used MSE's resolver and the money was back in his bank account. Excellent, a glass of fizz is in order tonight I think :T:rotfl:
