If not stay on 16 hours.
Go without the iphone the take away and the wine.
Dont forget to take into account any extra travel/childcare costs when working it out. Sometimes those things can actually make you worse off by working more0 -

It's alright saying that you should work as many hours as you can but at what cost?
Many I would imagine when they calculate what the extra in the purse is at the end of the week by working 30 instead of 16 hours may well find that there is no extra money - it's all been eaten up in extra costs.
If I was told that I would get say £15 a week more after all expenses are paid for working the extra 14 hours I would work the 16 and spend the other 14 hours watching everybody else do the work!0 -
you also need to consider what would happen once UC is rolled out.
the expectations placed on claimants are far more rigorous than they are currently.
once your child reaches senior school age, you will be expected to work full time, and benefit entitlement will depend on this being the case, or proving that you are trying to meet this condition0 -

I don't want an iphone, I don't eat takeaway and I don't drink wine. Being a mum I'm used to making sacrifices 👍0 -
I suppose having been claiming benefits for the past 8 years at least, getting off them isn't really a priority0

Is that in addition to the WTC I would already be getting? Eg £15 a week more than the £50 a week for working 30 hours?0 -
