Wax or soap to polish plaster ?

Looking for a subdued polish on the plaster ceiling in the drawing room - Don't want a high gloss, but it does need some sort of sealing due to the occasional puff of smoke escaping from the fire.

The two options are marseille soap or a beeswax polish (paraffine wax will give too high a gloss).

Opinions ?

Oh yes. A tin of paint has been no where near it. The plaster does have a little bit of blue pigment mixed in, so it isn't pure white, more of a pale sky blue.

  • Ah, I was curios. Can't help though, wouldn't have clue about how to polish it.

Sounds like the kind of question they love on the forum over at Period Property UK. Maybe they'll be able to help.

I lurk - They appear to be a friendly bunch, but with a fairly small number of regular posters. Good place to discuss lime mortar/plaster, managing damp, and issues connected with listed properties.

Figured here would have a wider audience.
