Ryan Air question...

It's been ages since I flew on Ryan Air.

I was wondering when taking a laptop..can you take this with you along side your hand luggage or does it need to fit into your actual hand luggage bag or is your laptop considered your hand luggage ?

You are only allowed to take one piece of hand luggage on board. The laptop will have to fit into your bag I'm afraid. HTH

You can only take one bag through security at airports - however all laptops must be taken out of the bag and scanned separately.

This applies to ALL flights from UK airports not just Ryanair's

Well I'm leaving from Norway..flying to Stansted.I usually take other airlines (SAS etc.) but thought I'd ask as I couldn't find any info regarding laptops on the website

FLying through Europe - can you have your lap top in your main luggage? I am flying in from AUS and not sure the rules...

Well, there are no rules against it though unless you have an exceptional insurance policy that specifically states it will cover the loss of your laptop from hold luggage it doesn't sound like a good idea - generally I wouldn't advise putting any valuable items in hold luggage.

I agree with o_t_e, I would never risk mine in hold luggage. With regards to laptops through security with hand luggage, after watching other savvy travellers at work tactically at Stansted, I have a feeling there is a good chance that if you confidently have your laptop out and in your hand as you enter security either still inside its own slim fit bag, or with its empty bag already inside your other hand luggage, then if they do weigh, I don't think they often include the laptop. When you enter security I have never seen anyone asked to put their obvious laptop inside their one item of hand luggage...anyone seen different?

When challenged about overweight hand luggage by security, I have previously succeeded in rapidly extracting something and in the words of Corporal Jones, waving it nonchalantly (don't block the queue and rummage - be slick), like food for the journey (e.g. fruit), and books for the journey and said "Ah it's only my fruit eat on the plane" or "It's only my books to read on the plane". They usually just mutter something with "ok this time" on the end. It's the ditherers with a look of fear in their eyes that are their normal prey I think

Next week I might test my theory with my 3kg laptop:D

I've seen loads of business men at Stansted with laptops (in their case) in one hand and a bag in the other then, when they get to the security point, they have to take the laptop out of the bag to scan it. They never seem to weigh anything there lately.

Thanks folks...hopefully I won't have any issues with them tomorrow BUT if i do I'm coming to hunt you down haha *joking of course*

I take SAS back to Norway so I know those rules regarding that
