Standard Rate on E& Meter

I am nearing the end of my British Gas Collective Switch Feb 17 and have just tried to move to PFP but have been told that I can't have the deal as I would have to go on to their E& tariff which I don't want to as I don't use it. They said i could switch and then pay £72 to have the meter changed by them, but that is half of the potential savings! And I don't want to wait for BG to do it!
BG currently allow me to have the standard rate on both readings - are there other suppliers that do the same?

A few do. I know both E.ON and Iresa will, I'm in the process of switching from one to the other with a dual rate meter.
I think EDF do based on something I read in another thread but I'm not certain.
Other than telling a PCW that you don't have an E7 meter and then working through your list of preferred companies by phoning them up and asking until you find one that will combine, I'm not sure there's any way to know though.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Surely 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing!
But something sounds rather wrong in your comparison if the difference between single rate and E7 from the same supplier is about £150.
I suggest you recheck your comparison :money:0 -
Hi Footyguy
Perhaps I didn't explain properly. On the CEC comparison tool I selected not Economy 7 as I currently do not use that although I have that meter type. BG charge me my fixed rate as part of my deal on both meter readings.
When I went through the PFP switch on their website I again selected no E7 but when I entered my address it automatically detected my meter type. The savings originally offered were £150 but to then pay to have my meter changed would halve that. i agree that that is better than nothing but I would be better off switching to someone offering a slightly lower saving which would still be more than PFP after the meter switch.
I just need to know who will charge standard fixed on both meters and not have an E7 rate.0 -
Like I say, check out Iresa http://www.iresa.co.uk/
Obviously, prices can vary by region. But they came out cheaper on electricity and on gas standing charge, fractionally higher gas unit rate than pfp for me (but still £90 a year cheaper overall), and they'll combine readings for a single rate.
They're quite a small company. Few niggles in their feedback thread but haven't seen any of the kinds of complaints over the egregious behaviour the big boys get up to.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). @energyuser75
I doubt that anyone has created that information and published it online.
You will need to contact your chosen supplier and ask them if they will combine your E7 readings into a single value.0 -
You are much better off in the long run to pay the £70 and be done with an Eco 7 meter where only a few of the big six can total the tariffs. You are losing out on opening up the whole market on electric and getting rates and standing.charges better than a BG collective. You can go separate suppliers to beat dual fuel collectives, eg Robin Hood energy for electric , and Daligas for gas with better standing charges. Dump the meter and pay out now !0

By limiting yourself to only single rate tariffs and keeping the E7 meter, you will be significantly restricting your choice of supplier as only a very few will accomodate that.
If you would care to post your consumption details I'll take a deeper look for you at the best deals available.
I will need:
a) Your anticipated annual consumption of electricity in kWh
b) The percentage of that amount recorded on your low rate meter registry
c) Your supply region (or first half of your postcode)
If you also require gas, let me know your anticipated annual consumption of that in kWh and I'll throw that into the mix0
