Evans store card 1995-2000

I had an Evans store card back in 1995, for about 5 years, running up a debt of about £3k on it before I paid it off with a loan as the interest was crucifying me.

There's a good chance that I had PPI added without me knowing, but I have no account numbers and no paperwork.

Is there any way to try and grab some money back or a) have I left it too long, and b) am I screwed without paperwork/account details?

You would have seen the PPI on every statement, if you had it.

This is untrue (but is the case in the vast majority of claims)

Yes, it's always easier if you have some paperwork, although equally I've known several people personally as well as on here who have successfully reclaimed PPI payments plus 8% pa interest without paperwork.

Santander > the FOS (Ombudsman) > Genworth (the underwriter) is currently the successful route some claimants are using re store cards from the 1990s onwards from the then Arcadia Group (Evans, DP, Burton, Top Shop, Debenhams, etc).

Many only have to contact Santander incidentally. Their PPI team are helpful and can often provide account numbers over the 'phone simply by searching by name and post code.

It's only "untrue" if you mean that the PPI wouldn't have shown on monthly statements unless it was actually paid.
Of course, if the OP always cleared the outstanding balance (and so never paid PPI) there would be nothing to refund anyway.

I believe Mersey is referring to 1 (or 2?) very very very VERY VERY rare cases where the bank made an error in printing the statement without mentioning the PPI, it affected a tiny number of people in very extreme circumstances and not for very long, it's pretty much 99.99% guaranteed the PPI WAS on every statement

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes, it's an error largely restricted to store card PPI from years ago.

There have been a dozen reported cases involving Burton by Martin Lewis, a couple with Style card (RBS have taken on that historic liability), I've seen one such statement and there have been a couple on here from OPs as well.

I think the only bank who have admitted it happened on any of their loan statements was NatWest.
