Claiming Deceased person PPI

My late Mother claimed back PPI about 3 years ago. The company took a while to pay out & by the time they sent her a cheque in her name, she had been deceased for a few months. I still have this cheque, but have been told I have no claim to it even though her will names me as responsible for dealing with her finances & I handled her affairs following her passing. After tonight's MSE on ITV, believe I have been misled? if I have, what can I do?
Many thanks

The executor of the estate can deal with the firm. The firm should reissue the money to the estate for distribution to the beneficiaries.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
