Florida Car Hire CDW/LDW

Are CDW and LDW the same thing? I can't find a US rental site which states you need both.
Any help appreciated, thx.

    Hiya...

CDW (collision damage waiver) and LDW (loss damage waiver)
This relieves you of financial responsibility for a rental vehicle damaged by an accident, vandalism or theft. It usually costs between $9 and $20 per day...

Also..go here http://www.travelsense.org/tips/car.asp and go down to Insurance options. Will answer everything you need :)

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
If a rental car is damaged, the renter may be responsible for the first several hundred dollars of damage (the deductible) up to the full price of the car. By purchasing CDW (also known as Loss Damage Waiver or LDW), the renter is released from responsibility of any loss or damage to a vehicle up to the full value of the car. However, if the renter is in violation of the rental agreement, the waiver is void. Your personal auto insurance may already provide coverage for damage to rental cars and the purchase of CDW or LDW may not be necessary. Regulations for selling CDW/LDW vary from state to state.

some good general tips there but please note that the site appears to be geared towards a US citizen, who have different insurance criteria to those of a tourist

  • just trying to stop the confusion when people ask (or worse assume)1. does my car insurance cover this or 2. does my credit card cover this.
a word to the original OP ..be very careful and read all the small print before hiring a car in the US.
preferably go on good recommendations off this site but still double check everything
