Service plans - mercedes

My old (1992) Merc came to me with a full M-B service history, and I went to the local M-B dealership to see how much it would cost to get it serviced there and keep the stamps continuous. They do a cut-price servicing deal for older cars, although the details aren't clear on the website.
Well, said the lady, we can do you a basic service for (round figures) £250, or a full service for £350. I asked what the extra £100 brought me. Well, said the lady again, on the full service they are really thorough - they actually take the wheels off and check the brakes.
!
And probably don't clean or 'service' them, but may well suggest renewing discs and pads!

Heh. I know enough to be immune to that approach. I imagine the car would be immaculately valeted on return, but I found it a bit staggering that actually checking the brakes was not part of a basic service. The way she said it, it was presented as something rather special. "They actually take the wheels off and inspect the brakes" - actual words. And probably don't clean or 'service' them, but may well suggest renewing discs and pads!
VBIf someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Mine come back with a percentage of brake pads and discs left on the report.0

I suspect this is the difference between normal modern car servicing and the cut-price service they offer for older cars. As far as I could gather, the minor service was nothing more than an oil change and a quick look round.Mercdriver wrote: »Mine come back with a percentage of brake pads and discs left on the report. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
One thing to be aware of with the merc servicing plan is that any work they identify has to be done and by them to retain the plan. I was told on my service at 18,000 miles, 2 years old that I would need new discs and pads at the next service. I could easily do them myself but to stay on the plan, I need to pay about £370 for the job. I was quite surprised to be needing new discs at 18k. I can only assume that they are very thin these days.0

Thank you all
Re ths discs, yes ther are thinner but on the GLS, like a brick, but a lot of the time it's how you drive the car - if like my son in his M class 350, they go every 14/16k as he drives and brakes hard, but I'm gentle on breake and then if a repalcement and cheaper discs, thhey will go quick
Thanl you all again all v helpful0 -

Now perhaps I was unfair, but you hear about cowboy tradesmen all the time, you see them on BBC watchdog and one thing they all have in common is a flashy car.
He'd have to have been doing well to have a 2008 5 Coupe, as BMW didn't bring out the 'GT' until 2009, and before that the 5er only came as a saloon or Touring.0
