Cart Bleue cards

I have been on holiday in France touring many times,Sundays are a nightmare as most manned petrol stns are closed .But the automated stns only accept Carte Bleue cards my wife and i have been helped out by outstanding locals, cash in exchange for use of their card when we are in the middle of nowhere .We have tried our own cards but to no avail can any one help ?
would a halifax Clarity card help?

My understanding is that CB is a French-only debit card system, sort of an alternative to Visa or Maestro. If the petrol station really will only accept CB cards, then a Clarity card is not going to help much.

It might be easier to just plan a bit ahead, fill up on a Saturday using your own credit or debit card at a manned station petrol station ?

Yes that is what we have been doing. but it is a bit of a faff especially after a long day on the bike and very limiting mileage wise 200mls range or so on Sunday Thank you.

Where in France? I've travelled a fair bit in France and it's years since I found a petrol site that wouldn't take a UK credit card. I've used Barclaycard, Nationwide and Clarity all successfully. I usually go to supermarket pumps, as they are generally cheaper.
