Car Insurance upgrade. Is there a penalty/fee?

I have broken my leg and unlikely to be able to drive for many months

Seeing as the car will be sitting outside my house, I was thinking of getting third party insurance and then upgrading to fully comprehensive when I get back behind the wheel.

Does anyone know if I will be charged extra? My mechanic thinks I will.

Thinking of going on a comparison site to get a good deal, so I guess there will not be the opportunity to enquire before I commit myself?

insurance Cos do not like third part only , tends to show that the owner does not care and the third party "can" be more than a fire and theft price , the Admin costs involved would probably exceed the savings

run a couple of quotes thru a comparison site , you may find your policy is only a few £ more than 3 rd party

If the car is parked on the road you need at least third party cover.
Most people find that third party Fire & theft is more expensive than comprehensive cover (something to do with the risk level of the sort of people who want 3PF&T).

If it is off road you can SORN it, and speak to your insurer about suspending your policy and getting fire & theft cover only.

I used to get TP only insurance but now there is no point as quotes for comprehensive are similar or cheaper and you get windscreen cover included.
