Digital oven probe advice.

I have just bought a new gas oven and am finding that not only are the dials rather inaccurate but the oven takes ages to pre-heat too.
Ideally, I would love a digital device to not only give me an accurate readout of the temperature but one that can alarm when the oven reaches the desired pre-heated temperature.
Can anyone recommend anything please?
I did have a look round the net but most of the devices seem to include probes that are inserted into food itself, rather than mounted inside the oven itself.
Thanks.

Would it be easier to return your oven for a refund if it is not working correctly?0

As far as I can tell, it is working fine.
I did look online and gas oven dials are rarely accurate - you just need to work out where each gas mark truly is try and remember for future use.
I should also say that the oven takes comparatively longer than my electric oven to heat. It does heat up fine, it just takes a lot longer than I am used to.0 -
I use a simple oven thermometer that grips onto a shelf; I'd recommend using something like that, and just make a mental note to check the oven after 15 minutes.
I'd be sceptical of the lifespan of anything electronic surviving in an oven, so they might not even exist.0 -
I find gas ovens very unreliable for accuracy of temperature
Electric are far more accurate
Salters do oven thermometers but a gas oven will never be 100% accurate0 -
Try looking at something like this, the probe can be placed in the oven and the door should still shut and seal ok...
