Casablanca (Morocco) Area Family Holiday

Hi everyone.
I just needed some advice please.
Me, my husband and our three kids (age 8, 5 and 1) will be travelling to Morocco in October this year. We managed to find cheap flights to Casablanca but we are still not sure where to base ourselves.
Please can someone recommend any areas near Casablanca airport that are suitable for families? We are preferably looking for somewhere that is about an hours drive from the airport and somewhere near the beach for the kids. Historical sites and markets nearby would be an added bonus for me.
Thanks in advance.

Why choose Casablanca! It's not an obvious choice for a family holiday.
The obvious resorts of essauoria or agadir are a long way away, maybe post in the relevant tripadvisor forum?0 -
I've been to Casablanca as a 2 night stop off on a train trip from Marrakesh to Fes and back.....and 2 nights was long enough. Big, polluted, commercial city.
Like Bigadaj says Casablanca isn't a family holiday destination, and without doing any homework before commiting your money is a poor choice.0 -
How long do you have? Getting the train to Marrakech for a few days then a bus to Essaouira might be your best option. Or just stay in Marrakech and some desert trips. It's not really a sitting on the beach option though.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

If there had not been a film few people would go to Casablanca. The huge modern mosque is worth a visit and a wander down the Corniche is pleasant but a day is more than sufficient.
Fes and Marrakech are much more interesting and you are better going to resorts to the south for a beach holiday.0 -
Rabat, the capital city, is easy to reach from Casablanca by train. It's a very pleasant coastal city, colonial French, with an easy to navigate Medina.
Fes isn't far from Rabat, much less touristy than Marrakesh, and the Medina definitely has a Middle Ages vibe to it.
So rather than head from Casablanca to Marrakesh, take an easy to do option slightly off the beaten track.0 -
I'm sorry for the confusion but we are only flying to Casablanca airport- we do not intend to stay in Casablanca.
I just wanted to know if there were any nice areas near Casablanca that we could stay in? Preferably only a maximum 2 hours drive from the airport.0
