Report Car Incident or Not?

  • Thanks. I did thanks all them yesterday and have now found the photos so I'll email them today. Just wondering if I didn't notify them in Jan what will they do?
I've also looked at my policy docs and no where does it say to inform them m about incidents or accidents if no claim.. It says to inform them of accidents where I wish to claim or which might result in a claim. Is there a law that says otherwise so it doesn't have to be in the insurance docs?

In reality, small scrape cheap to repair/old car driver is not worried about it, not that many people do

It's risky, and the main risk is always that the other driver will use your lack of action as an opportunity for putting in his own claim claiming damage or injury and saying it was your fault.
You need to make a quick judgement whether you trust the other person or not. Neighbour, friend, relative - perhaps yes. Unknown Lithuanian lorry driver - no!

Your accident has resulted in a claim.

I have him on video saying his lorry didn't touch my car. SO at the time I won't have thought it'll result in a claim as I was the only one with any grounds to make a claim.

The Insurer's 1st email which was sent last week says they're contacting me for further info about the notification I made on their out of hours line and they require more info for their underwritters so perhaps I did notify them back in Jan.

It's their 2nd email later in the week that says there's a claim against me.

Can I ask them to tell me when I made the notification or if that's an error on their part?
