Can't believe "that" petition has so many signatures, but this one, which is hoping to protect ALL children in the UK from predators is struggling ...

Agree this is much more important.

So this 15 year old shouldn't get a second chance?
“[Chief Constable] Parr said: Two 15-year-olds – a boy and a girl – went off into the woods for a kiss and a cuddle. The boy placed a hand on the girl’s breast. It was not unusual or ridiculous behaviour.
“The girl went home and told her mum. The mum decided this was out of order. Legally, under 16 that young lady is not allowed to consent to that, and so that 15-year-old was found guilty of an indecent assault and he is on the sex offenders register now for five years."

"he must inform the police within three days if he changes his name or address, and disclose if he is spending seven days or more away from his home.
But even after five years the offence will continue to show up during CRB checks."0 -
And in Scotland they have an offence of Sexual Breach of the Peace which can see someone going on the sex offenders register for something as petty as a drunken streak or moon.0

It should not have come to that in the first place.
Commonsense should come into play in cases like this.0 -
The motive behind the petition is good but until there are differing levels of register then it would be a very unjust and dangerous thing to do. The sex offences register is, IMO, too wide ranging, someone (a man !) taking a !!!! on the way home from the pub and reported by a female could end up on the register for life.
The case quoted by Andy L is just ridiculous - did the girl not respond with any "inappropriate" touching ? I remember clearly being "molested" by girl over 16 when I was under (just) and we did the same when both 15. The reason we split up was because of pressure from her mother, I doubt today with the (legally) reversed roles it would have gone to court. If there was no force or coercion then IMO there was no crime. Obviously someone in the sex offences unit going for easy smartie points, the only coercion here would have been in getting the statement of the "victim" !
And the stories about her peers my granddaughter has been coming home from school with since she was 14 :eek:0 -

I feel sure the case would never have come to this but for the continuing lies & deceit of the boy involved.
Restorative justice (prior to sentencing) can never be available to those who deny their crime.
In reality, anyone who is found guilty by a court actually faces a double whammy; (a) for the crime they have been found to have committed and (b) for lying to the court in the first place.
Defendents are given a warning to this effect prior to entering any not guilty plea.0 -

No point.
It has already received a written response that says the petition calls for something that is...incompatible with article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)....0 -
