Car insurance question

Hi all I got my car insurance renewal from Liverpool and Victoria of over £400 which I thought a bit steep. Went on to moneysupermaket as recommended here to compare and lo and behold who was second cheapest - Liverpool victoria for £167. The only difference was I didn'#t put my partner down as named driver and didn't have courtesy car or legal protection (extra £38 for both) which I do have on my existing quote. As this seemed such a discrepancy I rang LV but he could only get it down to £267 with all above benefits removed. I said right I'll just renew online then thanks for your help but he said as I'm already with LV I won't be able to renew online until 2 weeks after my current policy runs out. Does this seem right to you? anyone had any similar experiences. Thanks in advance
