Cheap Rail Ticket Leicester to Aberdeen?

Can anyone help me find a cheap rail ticket from Leicester to Aberdeen, departing on 9th or 10th July and returning on 16th July. The cheapest I've been able to find is ridiculously priced at over £100. I know that there's the possibility to reduce the fare significantly by booking separate tickets for different legs of the journey but have been able to get the price down much.
Can anyone help me find a cheaper fare please?

There seems to be some funny reason why there's no cheap fares on the 16 July.

Have you thought about flying instead? I'm pretty sure it won't be cheaper, but it will be a lot quicker. (Cheapest fare I can see for that, though, is £161.50 return and then requires you to fly out on FRIDAY and back SUNDAY).

hi the reason prices are so high is that the rail companies don't release the cheap tickets until nearer the time so you will have to wait. the cheapest is £44 return (2 single virgin value 14 day advance tickets at £22 each) but i dont think there are many virgin trains to aberdeen.

im sure leicester is a virgin route so you are laughing if you can get a 14 day advance ticket. i think your best bet is to keep checking nearer the time (say about 4 weeks before)

You can get a return ticket from leiceter to edinburgh for £35!!! (2 x 14 day advance singles if you are lucky but even if you miss out you would probably get a 7 day virgin value or a 3) you could then just pay for a saver return or another advanced ticket from edi - aberdeen.

Also dont forget to get cashback at quidco.com (albeit it 1%)

Leicester isn't Virgin, it's Midland Mainline.

I'm not sure about £35 either (particularly as you don't know which rail company is involved)! If I look at dates around 3 weeks ahead, the cheapest fare is STILL £89 just to Edinburgh with extra on top for the Aberdeen sector.

yes but Virgin go via leicester and cheapest fare is £35 - try finding a ticket for about 2/3 weeks from now and you will see what i mean. go to https://www.thetrainline.com and they will show you the possible prices.

It doesn't look as if the really cheap fares for the return trip aren't available yet.
