The last lot I bought was at least 5 years ago, I got about 300+ (2 large bin bags full) all brand new and sealed from an auction for £8. I eventually had to donate virtually all of them to a charity shop as apart from a couple of very rare US Disney ones the rest were worthless even as a job lot.

EDIT: have a look for sets, The Mario Brothers ones seem to be doing quite well for instance.

I have a lot on my plate at the moment, so if the worst comes to the worst I can flog them cheaply and lie about how much they made!

That was my thought, if it is worth it to you.

or take them to a charity shop, let them worry over them...

I offered a box to a charity shop, they didn't want them as they don't like selling things that were free to start with.

My thought would be to try and identify any rare or current ones (e.g. anything Beauty and the Beast is likely to be popular at the moment) and then put up small mixed lots with a "good one" in each.

Alternatively try to sell complete sets. You might find some of the more well known ones like Barbie, TMNT, My Little Pony etc are still collected.
